Superwhisper vs Wispr Flow: which to choose for dictating in Spanish

Both are AI dictation apps that type in any program. The difference that decides it for a law firm is where your voice ends up: one can run entirely on your computer and the other always goes to the cloud.

Superwhisper and Wispr Flow are the two best-known AI dictation apps outside Spain. Both work on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, type wherever the cursor is and rewrite what you dictate with a language model. On the outside they look very similar. On the inside, they don't: Superwhisper lets you choose models that run on your computer, and Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud.

The comparison in a table

Where your voice goes

It is the question that decides it if you dictate about client matters.

Superwhisper splits dictation into two phases that are configured separately: turning voice into text and, if you want, going over the text with a language model. Each phase can use a local model or a cloud one (S1-Voice, Deepgram, ElevenLabs for the voice; Anthropic, OpenAI and others for the text). Its documentation says that, with both local, neither the audio nor the text leaves the computer. With cloud models, it says it works with zero retention agreements and offers a data processing agreement. The caveat: on Intel Macs they recommend the cloud models, because the local ones only run well on Apple Silicon.

Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud. The audio travels encrypted and is deleted once transcribed, unless you turn on storage in its cloud, and its privacy policy states that the data of users outside the US is transferred to and processed in the US. On individual plans there is an option to share audio and transcripts to improve its models, which is worth checking in its privacy settings. It declares SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 and lets you sign an agreement for HIPAA.

For a Spanish law firm, this translates into the usual questions: where it is processed, who the data processor is, whether the data leaves the EU and whether it is used for training. We go into them in client confidentiality and the GDPR when using AI.

Spanish and the vocabulary of your work

Both work in Spanish. In Superwhisper the languages depend on the model: the multilingual Whisper models cover more than a hundred. Wispr Flow supports more than a hundred languages and recommends dictating in only one at a time. Both have custom vocabulary for names and acronyms.

Where neither of them is specialised is legal work in Spanish: procedural terms, acronyms of laws, article citations in the right format, the verbatim text of the law. That is exactly ablalo's niche, which we compare with Wispr Flow point by point in ablalo vs Wispr Flow.

Price

Superwhisper is the cheapest and the only one with a one-off payment: $249.99 for life, as well as $8.49 a month or $84.99 a year, with a licence that covers all your Macs, PCs and phones. Its free plan lets you dictate without limit with local models. Wispr Flow costs $15 a month, or $12 billed annually, and its free plan stops at 2,000 words a week on the computer.

Which to choose

In short

Superwhisper and Wispr Flow do the same thing with opposite philosophies: the first lets you choose local or cloud models, and the second does everything in its cloud. If the criterion is privacy and price, Superwhisper wins; if it is convenience across all devices, Wispr Flow. For legal work in Spanish, neither of them comes with what a law firm needs out of the box.

Frequently asked questions

Does Superwhisper work on Windows?

Yes. Superwhisper has an app for Windows 10 and 11, with x64 and ARM64 processors, as well as Mac (macOS 14 or later), iPhone and Android.

Does Superwhisper work without the internet?

It can if you choose local models for the voice and, if you use the AI pass, for the text too. In that case, according to its documentation, neither the audio nor the text leaves the computer. On Intel Macs they recommend the cloud models.

Does Wispr Flow process your voice locally?

No. Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud and has no local mode. Its privacy policy states that the data of users outside the US is processed in the US.

How much do Superwhisper and Wispr Flow cost?

As of 9 October 2026, Superwhisper Pro costs $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 as a one-off payment, and it has a free plan with local models. Wispr Flow Pro costs $15 a month or $12 a month billed annually, and its free plan allows 2,000 words a week on the computer.

Which is better for a law firm?

It depends on where you want your voice to be processed and how much legal vocabulary you need. Superwhisper can run entirely locally; Wispr Flow always goes to the cloud. Neither comes with Spanish legal vocabulary out of the box or with the insertion of articles of law, which is what ablalo offers.
