Comparison

ablalo vs DigaLaw X

Both work in Spanish, both are made for legal professionals and both dictate well. But they are products in two different categories, and choosing the wrong one costs a few hundred euros.

DigaLaw X, from SpeechWare, is probably the longest-standing legal dictation product on the Spanish market. It has been in law firms and courts for years (according to its website, in a consortium with Telefónica, up to 3,000 judges, magistrates, prosecutors and court clerks can dictate with it), and its maker knows the sector better than almost anyone.

It is not a product that competes with ablalo feature by feature. It is a different category of purchase: a complete suite that is installed with you and that you are taught to use, versus an app you download and that works in ten seconds. This comparison is about which of the two categories your firm needs.

In short: DigaLaw X, a suite with training for Windows (on a Mac, with Parallels): it transcribes locally up to 20 minutes in Silver, at 299 euros for six months. ablalo, for dictating briefs on Windows and Mac: voice and recordings on your computer, 22 to 29 euros a month plus VAT.

The underlying difference: suite versus app

DigaLaw X is a legal suite. As well as dictating, it transcribes audio and video files, extracts data from PDFs and images, comes with some 250 voice commands for formatting (in the Silver version), includes AI drafting assistants that run on the computer and is sold with remote installation, one-to-one training and technical support during office hours for the length of the subscription.

ablalo does one thing: it turns what you say in Spanish into text that is already drafted, punctuated and clean, in any program you have open. No assisted installation, no training and no commands to memorise.

Choosing between the two basically means answering this question: do I need a tool or do I need a system?

Where DigaLaw X wins

It does things ablalo doesn't

This is the first thing to say, and it is concrete. If you need to pull data out of a scanned PDF or a photo of a document, ablalo is no use to you: it does not process documents. DigaLaw X does, and for a firm that works with scanned documentation that may be the deciding argument.

They set it up for you and teach you

Remote installation, one-to-one training sessions and unlimited technical support during office hours for as long as the subscription lasts. In a firm where nobody wants to be the one who fights with the computer, that is worth real money. It is also the sales model many firms prefer: someone accountable at the other end of the phone.

Very specific formatting commands

Some 250 voice commands for formatting and correcting in the Silver version (about 20 in Bronze and about 500 in Gold). If you come from the world of classic dictation and are used to working like that, it is familiar ground.

Where ablalo wins

Mac, for real

DigaLaw X works on a Mac through emulation with Parallels. That means buying the Parallels licence and a copy of Windows and accepting the friction of working inside a virtual machine. ablalo has a native app for Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel) and for Windows. If your firm runs on Macs, this line decides on its own.

The price, and above all what you have to commit to

With the prices published as of 12 October 2026, DigaLaw X Silver is 499 euros for twelve months. ablalo is 264 euros a year plus VAT on annual billing, or 348 euros paying month by month. But what changes most is not the figure: it is that with ablalo you can pay for one month and stop, while the other is a purchase by the half-year or by the year.

Really trying it before you pay

Both can be tried without paying, in different ways. DigaLaw X gives a one-month trial licence to anyone who attends its free online masterclass, according to its FAQ page. ablalo is downloaded and tried for 14 days with your own briefs, with no card and without waiting for any session. In both cases, what really shows you what a tool does badly is using it on your computer, with your clients' names and the jargon of your specialism. That is what matters when what you are buying is «how much will I have to correct».

Transcribing a hearing with no minute limit and without it leaving the computer

Both transcribe recordings, so here the comparison is in the small print. DigaLaw X publishes local transcription of audio and video with a maximum of 20 minutes in its Silver version (10 in Bronze and 30 in Gold). For long recordings, of up to 10 hours, the Gold version transcribes on its server with separate paid credit packs. In ablalo, transcription of recordings (a court hearing, a witness statement, a meeting with the client) is done on your own computer and does not run on credit packs.

And there is a consequence that goes beyond price: the usual alternative for transcribing a long hearing is to upload the file to a cloud service. That means handing a third party the full recording of a proceeding. The file not leaving the computer is not a technical advantage: it is the difference between being able to use it on a real matter and not being able to.

Citing the law without typing it

You name the article («artículo 1124 del Código Civil», article 1124 of the Civil Code; «artículo 24 de la Constitución», article 24 of the Constitution) and ablalo puts the full official text in the document, word for word, instantly. It is not vocabulary recognition: it is the law connected to dictation.

Getting started without ceremony

No remote installation, no training session, no learning curve. You download, press the shortcut and speak. For a lawyer working alone or a firm of three, the difference between «I'll have it working this afternoon» and «I'll have it working when we can fit in a date with the technician» is real.

And privacy, which is no decoration here

Both products are aimed at professionals bound by professional secrecy, so the question has to be put to both, in writing.

On our side, the answer is this: in ablalo the audio is transcribed on your own computer and is not uploaded to any server. When you turn on the Assistant mode, which rewrites and adjusts the text, only the text travels, encrypted, to a European AI, and it is not used to train any model. It is set out in detail in the privacy policy (in Spanish).

Ask DigaLaw X, and anyone else, the same five questions set out in client confidentiality and the GDPR when using AI in a law firm: where each thing is processed, who the data processor is, whether anything leaves the EU, whether it is used for training and what happens when you stop being a customer.

So, which one?

There are firms where the first makes sense and firms where the second makes sense. What makes no sense is paying for half a year of a full suite only to end up using just the dictation.
